Due to the natural softness of the wire, round braided wires are traditionally used at the beginning of treatment to correct misaligned, crowded and rotated teeth with mild to moderate wire deformation, depending on the severity of the malocclusion.

The rectangular braided wires are excellent for transition from round to rectangular, align, level and detail the occlusion effectively using lower forces comparatively than a steel wire.
